The mission of this site is to provide actionable information to the general public in the case of a radiological emergency. The problem with the current site was that, since its inception immediately post-9/11, it had grown in an uncontrolled manner leaving it without a clear voice or mode of communication.
Working with SMEs within the Radiation Studies branch, we devised an action-oriented communication strategy which revolved around three main themes; Get Inside, Stay Inside, and Stay Tuned. The new site concept also involved two general treatments of the site’s front page; the standard treatment focused on standard preparedness knowledge and activities and another treatment employing an incident-specific focus which would replace the standard treatment in the case of an active radiological emergency.
Graphic design elements and UX conventions we dictated by CDC's standard style guide.
